Fifteen things to do on Sydney Harbour
This is an editorial selection, not a ranking. It mixes paid activities and free ones, and it covers the water, the bridge, the ferry towns and the shore. Prices are adult prices in Australian dollars for 2026 unless stated. Many are advertised "from" prices that change with date and demand.
Pick one or two ideas per day. A cruise and a ferry ride cover the water, the bridge and Manly fill a day, and the islands and walks suit a slower day. Start at Circular Quay, where trains and ferries meet. If you plan a longer stay, the where to stay page explains the harbour areas.

On the water: ideas 1 to 4
Cruises for daytime, sunset and evening.
1. Sightseeing cruise
A guided one-hour cruise from Circular Quay is the fastest way to see the Opera House and the bridge from the water. Advertised prices start at A$37 for adults (2026).
Harbour cruises →2. Hop-on hop-off
Hop-on hop-off passes for 1 day and 2 days cost A$48 and A$68 for adults (2026). The stops include Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Taronga Zoo, Shark Island, Watsons Bay and Manly. Check the current timetable and the last return before you plan.
Cruise options →3. Dinner or sunset cruise
Sunset dinner cruises run from Wednesday to Sunday. One example leaves King Street Wharf 1 at 17:00 with boarding at 16:45, and another leaves Circular Quay Wharf 6 at 17:30. The list price is A$129, and limited offers start at A$109. The trip is named Sunset, Winter Twilight or Summer Glow depending on the season.
Dinner cruises →4. Tall ship evening
A two-hour twilight dinner on a tall ship leaves from Campbell's Cove, with boarding 15 minutes earlier. Adults pay A$119, children aged 4 to 14 pay A$55 and a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children costs A$273 (2026).
Evening cruises →Our picks: things to do on the water
Our take: the tall ship lunch is the slow, scenic choice. The sunset catamaran is a short evening option, and the jet boat is for fun at speed.

BridgeMuseum details →7. Bridge Climb
The Summit Day climb starts from A$375 for adults and takes 3 hours in total. The UnderBridge Walk costs from A$248 and does not reach the summit. Children must be at least 8 years old, there is a breath test and you cannot bring a camera or phone onto the bridge.

Take the F9 ferry to Watsons Bay. The South Head Heritage trail is a 1 km loop of 30 to 60 minutes, plus the walk from the wharf. Gap Park is a separate cliff park nearby.

Day entry is free and the island is open daily, with the visitor centre open from 10:00 to 16:00. The convict site is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the island also has a historic dockyard and a campsite. Ferries F3 and F8 serve it. The island's Aboriginal name is Wareamah.

Two stops by the water that need no boat.
14. Darling Harbour
The Australian National Maritime Museum has free permanent galleries, and the "See it all" ticket is A$35 for adults. SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium starts from A$39 online for adults and A$24 for children aged 2 to 15. Both change prices by date. The harbour fireworks run on selected dates, not every Saturday.
Darling Harbour guide →15. Add the Opera House
The Opera House stands on the harbour next to Circular Quay. Tours, performances and the building itself have their own guide: see Sydney Opera House tours. It fits well before or after a cruise.
One note on Fort Denison: the island is closed to visitors for the whole of 2026, so it is not on this list.
