New Year's Eve cruise on Sydney Harbour
The fireworks on 31 December 2026 mark the turn into 2027. A New Year's Eve cruise is the way to watch them from the water, inside the zone that is closed to other boats. The ticket covers the whole evening, which usually runs from early evening until about 1 a.m.
The City of Sydney programme has the Calling Country fireworks at 9 p.m., Harbour Lights at 9:15 p.m. and the main fireworks at midnight. Example cruise offers for 31 December 2026 range from A$1,755 to A$2,450. They are single examples, not the lowest or highest price on the market, and prices are as of 2026.
Fireworks from the shore and the Opera House foreshore are covered in the Sydney Opera House guide to New Year's Eve. This page stays on the water.

Use the City programme times above for the show itself. Your booking confirms boarding and sailing times.
How the water is managed on the night
Rules from the NSW Government and the City of Sydney for 31 December 2026.
Exclusion zones
Boats without authorisation may not enter the marked exclusion zones from 8 p.m. to 12:45 a.m. Yellow buoys mark the edge, and Maritime and the police patrol them. The zones cover the water between Balls Head and Bradleys Head and the area east of Cockatoo Island and Glebe Island. A cruise operator's access is part of its own approval. It is not a right for private boats.
Speed limit
From 3 p.m. boats are limited to 6 knots. After the fireworks the limit stays at 6 knots with no wash until 2 a.m.
Under the Harbour Bridge
Transit under the bridge is closed from 8 p.m. to 12:45 a.m. After the early fireworks, an escorted passage westbound starts from Kirribilli at 10 p.m. Eastbound traffic moves after release, at about 12:45 a.m. See the Harbour Bridge guide for the bridge itself.
Farm Cove
No vessel over 15 m may enter Farm Cove. Follow the instructions you are given on the water.
New Year's Eve without a cruise
The City programme has ticketed vantage points, including Blues Point and offers on Clark Island and Cockatoo Island. A normal island landing ticket is not a New Year's Eve ticket. The harbour islands guide explains how each island works on an ordinary day.
NSW strongly advises small inflatable boats, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards to stay away from the crowded fireworks areas. A guided kayak tour is a daytime or sunrise option, not a plan for the fireworks.
Free viewing spots on the foreshore and the best views from land are covered in the Sydney Opera House guide to the best views.

Booking terms to read first
New Year's Eve tickets work differently from a normal harbour cruise.
Payment in full
New Year's Eve cruises require full payment at booking, and the payment is not refundable.
If the fireworks are cancelled
A cruise can still sail when the fireworks are cancelled. Do not assume an automatic refund.
Your wharf
Boarding wharfs differ by vessel. Write down the wharf and the boarding time from your booking and arrive early.
